The embarrassment of being arrested for a DUI and then having your picture plastered all over the front page of a newspaper would have to be immense. Just recently a former New York County Councilman was arrested in South Carolina for driving under the influence and then leaving the scene of an accident after crashing his car.

The councilman's life seems to have been spiraling out of control ever since he was arrested for lying on a mortgage application and sentenced to 18-months in prison. He had not yet begun serving this sentence in part because his wife was expecting to deliver their second child in the very near future. This is also the councilman's second DUI arrest as he was previously arrested in South Carolina for a DUI back in 2008.

This instance demonstrates that practically anyone's life can spin out of control and ultimately be arrested for a DUI. Often such individuals are talented people that have much to contribute to their community and have families that they are trying to take care of.

Few such individuals are ready for the consequences or adverse publicity that may follow such an arrest. And much of the publicity following such an arrest precedes any proof that the individual was actually guilty of the offense charged. Thus any evidence presented should be challenged by an experienced attorney in the area of DUI defense.

Often individuals following an arrest for a DUI will get the help that they need and go on to lead productive lives. However, to do so means that the individual arrested will require the counsel and advice of someone that understands their circumstances.
